How it works

Your website — handled

Stop spending your evenings in a page builder. Tell us about your business — we design it, build it, host it, and keep it running. You get a simple page for the changes you'd actually make.

The honest comparison

Us, the do-it-yourself builders, or the other guy

Squarespace, Wix, GoDaddy's builder — they rent you a tool and the building is up to you. A good freelancer builds it for you — and plenty are genuinely good; the question is what the arrangementcosts in year two, when every small change is billed and next year's update is a new quote. Ours is a different shape: one flat rate, everything included, and a simpler page for the changes you'd actually make.

Fair is fair: if you enjoy tinkering with design, a DIY builder gives you more knobs to turn. If you'd rather spend that time running your business, that's what we're here for.

The other ways businesses end up online

“Someone built me a WordPress site”

Great — until it isn’t. WordPress sites need constant plugin and security updates, and the person who built yours may be long gone. We take over existing sites, and moving to us doesn’t mean starting over.

“My Facebook page is my website”

A Facebook page is rented land — Meta owns it, visitors without an account see almost nothing, and it barely shows up in Google. Good as a supplement; risky as your only presence.

“I’m on Google Maps / Yelp”

That’s a listing, not a website — a signpost with nowhere to point. It works best when it points to a real site you control, with your services, your story, and a way to reach you.

Already have a site somewhere else?

On GoDaddy, Wix, an old WordPress site, or something a family member made years ago? Switching is our problem, not yours. We rebuild the site on our side, move your domain over, and handle the cutover — you don't have to export, migrate, or understand any of it.

The short version

Two jobs. Yours is the small one.

You

Tell us about your business, approve the design, and update the everyday stuff — text, photos, hours, prices — whenever you want, from your own editing page. Or skip all of that and just email us.

Digital Harbor

Design and build the site, register and manage the domain, host it, keep it secure and online, and make any structural change you ask for. If it can be called "website work," it's our job.

The rule of thumb: words and pictures are yours; structure and design are ours. When in doubt, ask — a two-line email is cheaper than an hour of guessing.

When you need a change

Two easy ways — pick either

Every site comes with a private editing page, and every plan includes us. Use whichever fits the moment — most clients mix both.

Change it yourself

Log in, see your pages, change the words and photos — that's the whole tool. The design is locked in, so there's nothing to break and nothing to learn beyond "type, save, done."

  • Any text — headlines, paragraphs, prices
  • Photos and images
  • Hours, announcements, specials

Or just tell us

Plenty of clients never open the editing page — they email the new hours or the new photo and we put it up. Self-service is a convenience, not an obligation. Anything bigger is ours too:

  • →New pages or whole new sections
  • →A fresh look or redesign
  • →New features — booking, ordering, forms, galleries
  • →Anything that feels technical — or you’re just not sure

Your address

Every site gets a proper web address on day one —yourname.mydigitalharbor.com. It works forever, costs nothing, and looks right on a business card. Want your own yourbusiness.com? About $15 a year paid at cost — we register it and set the whole thing up. Your site answers on both either way.

Words worth knowing

The terms people are afraid to ask about

That's genuinely all the vocabulary you need. Everything else is our job to translate.

Domain

Your address on the internet — like yourbusiness.com. Someone registers it and renews it every year. We do that for you.

Hosting

Where your website actually lives — computers that are always on so people can reach it. Ours is the same kind the big companies use.

SSL

The padlock in the address bar. It means the connection is private. Every site we run has it, automatically.

DNS

The internet’s phone book — it points your domain at your hosting. Pure plumbing; you’ll never touch it.

Still unsure?

Just ask

"Can I change this?" is a perfectly good email. We answer in plain English too.
